About Oud-West

The reason we decided to stay and make our home in this area of Amsterdam is largely because of the location. The street is one-way and the traffic flow is such that there is no reason to drive into the street unless you live here, which means we have very little traffic noise for a vibrant European city. The Old West district is full of surprises with bars cafes and restaurants that attract mostly a local clientele. Within walking distance we are spoiled for cosy bars, small shops and small supermarkets and fine dining at reasonable prices.

Walk out of our house and turn left and within a few minutes you will be at the entrance of the Vondel Park, Amsterdam’s biggest park attracting ten million visitors a year. Leave our house and turn right and enjoy the intimate Restaurant Fijnkost and also the unique Wine Bar, Rayleigh and Ramsay. In just one hundred meters you are on the Overtoom, and able to catch Tram 1 which will take you into the city centre in 9 minutes. Don’t worry, we will tell you how to use the trams and also help you with transport cards.

If your visit is to take in the sights and tourist attractions we are close to all the famous museums, concert halls and shopping streets. You can visit the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh museum and the Stedelijk Museum, and take in a concert at the Concertgebouw. All of Amsterdam is on your doorstep. We recommend to our guests to use GetYourGuide to book tickets in advance and avoid queuing.

Maybe you want to go Dutch and experience Amsterdam from the saddle of a bicycle, it really is the easiest way to get around, just ask about our bicycle hire.
